In the following centuries, hadiths were thoroughly studied, various directions emerged in this field, countless books were written, commentaries were composed, and translations were made. Among other things, the types of hadiths were identified; spiritual mentors studied them in their own ways, jurists in theirs, historians in theirs, and scholars from other fields also examined them in detail using approaches specific to their disciplines. Authentic hadiths were studied separately, hadith qudsi separately, hadiths related to sermons and advice separately, hadiths concerning knowledge separately, hadiths about maintaining kinship ties separately, and hadiths related to other similar fields were also studied separately.
At the same time, the custom arose of giving certain hadiths special names, emphasizing their distinction from other hadiths.
Your humble servant, while completing his works related to hadith, reflected on the fact that our great scholars and muhaddiths called certain hadiths “the core (mador) of Islam.”
For example, Imam Nawawi in his commentary on Sahih Muslim regarding the hadith "Religion is sincere advice" said: “The dignity of this hadith is great. It is the core of Islam” (Volume 2, page 37).
Imam Abu Dawud, may Allah have mercy on him, said about the hadith "Indeed, actions are judged by intentions":
“This hadith is among the hadiths that are the core of Islam. Four hadiths suffice for a person’s religion. They are:
‘Indeed, actions are judged by intentions.’
‘None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.’
‘The perfection of a person’s Islam is to leave what does not concern him.’
‘Indeed, lawful is clear, and unlawful is clear.’”
Other scholars have added more hadiths to this list, increasing those referred to as the "core of Islam."
The word “mador” in Arabic primarily means the axis or pivot around which something revolves. It also means core, foundation, dominant principle, and rule. Calling these hadiths the “core of Islam” means they encompass the foundation, essence, and dominant teachings of Islam. In our language, “mador” means strength, support, and foundation. These meanings can also be applied to these hadiths.
